Position: Independent Chair
Location: Newland, Lincoln, LN11YL

Job Responsibilities
Act as the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO), managing and overseeing allegations against adults who work or volunteer with children.
Receive and manage referrals relating to allegations involving individuals in positions of trust, ensuring appropriate safeguarding action is taken.
Liaise with employers, schools, and organisations to ensure safeguarding procedures are followed and risks are appropriately managed.
Work closely with multi-agency partners including children’s social care, police, regulatory bodies, and HR teams.
Oversee and coordinate investigation processes, ensuring they are timely, thorough, fair, and compliant with statutory guidance.
Provide direction and professional challenge where there are delays or concerns in case progression.
Assess safeguarding risk and ensure appropriate decision-making in relation to allegations management.
Maintain accurate, confidential records and documentation in line with statutory and organisational requirements.
Ensure compliance with relevant safeguarding legislation, statutory guidance, and local authority procedures.
Provide expert advice and guidance to employers and professionals regarding managing allegations.
Monitor case progress and ensure timely resolution in line with safeguarding timescales.
Attend multi-agency meetings and contribute to safeguarding decision-making processes.
Support safeguarding practice improvement through effective oversight and learning from cases.

Essential Criteria
Experience
Significant recent experience working as a Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO).
Experience managing allegations against adults working with children in a statutory safeguarding context.
Experience working with multi-agency partners including police, children’s social care, schools, and regulatory bodies.
Experience overseeing safeguarding investigations and providing professional challenge.
Knowledge
Strong and up-to-date knowledge of Working Together to Safeguard Children guidance.
In-depth understanding of safeguarding procedures, allegations management, and thresholds for intervention.
Understanding of employment processes, HR procedures, and regulatory frameworks relating to safeguarding allegations.
Knowledge of risk assessment and safeguarding decision-making processes.
Skills & Abilities
Strong analytical and decision-making skills with the ability to assess complex safeguarding information.
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to challenge professionally and influence senior stakeholders.
Ability to manage sensitive and complex cases with discretion and professionalism.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise a high-risk caseload.
Ability to work effectively within a multi-agency environment.
Strong report writing and case recording skills.
Ability to provide clear safeguarding advice and guidance to professionals and organisations.
